Trotters Sewing Company began in Asheboro, NC in October of 1992. Barbara and Jerry Trotter, both from textile backgrounds, took a leap of faith & started their own contract cut and sew business, BJ Con-Sew, Inc. The couple, along with one other sewer, manufactured mattress covers for their very first customer. Barbara was the main cloth cutter, and Jerry helped with the financial side of operations.
It didn't take long, and the couple found themselves cutting and sewing more products for more customers. They moved the business from its original 600 square foot facility to a 6,000 square foot facility across town. The Trotters also recruited their only son, Todd, to join the company. Today, he is Chief Operating Officer, and has been with the business for over 20 years.
Trotters Sewing Company is now located in a 50,000 square foot facility in Asheboro's Industrial Park, not too far from the small original site. The business is in close proximity to Interstate 73 and many of central North Carolina’s major cities and airports - Greensboro, Charlotte, and Raleigh/Durham.
In 2018, after celebrating 25 years of business, the company made another change - BJ Con-Sew, Inc. became Trotters Sewing Company, Inc. to reflect the change in business leadership. Barbara and Jerry Trotter are enjoying their retirement years, leaving day-to-day business operations in the hands of their son Todd and his wife Lori.
Lori helps with office administration and marketing, and the couple's three daughters, Shea, Emma and Annabeth, work for the company in various ways. The family's Boston Terrier Rex is the company greeter.
Although Trotters Sewing Company has grown substantially through the years, the management team and staff make every effort to retain the small family business atmosphere the company was founded upon.
